Happy 34 to Miguel Angel Silvestre today!
I can't wait for the second season of this sexy, super show.

Miguel posted this shot on Instagram two days ago;
that's Brian J. Smith & Max Riemelt with him.
They are filming new episodes right now!

Today I'd rather be...

... snuggling up to Idris.

Last week we posted four shots of Idris in Esquire magazine - the photographer of that shoot, James Macklin, posted this behind-the-scenes picture on his Instagram account. Some dudes get all the luck! I didn't even know that photographing Idris Elba and then getting to climb into bed with him was a real option, for fuck's sake.

Do you guys watch The Flash? I don't, but I have heard decent things. The whole DC TV-verse intimidates me (there's too much and I haven't seen any of it) so I probably wont start any time soon but I'd love to hear your thoughts. Anyway we love Teddy Sears thanks to Masters of Sex and it's his birthday today so we're taking these pictures of him and his Flash co-star Grant Gustin in tuxes (via Teddy's Instagram) and facing them off!

That there is a new shot of actor Garrett Clayton in King Cobra, the upcoming tale of gay porn seediness and murder that also stars James Franco, Christian Slater, Molly Ringwald, and Alicia Silverstone. (I know, what a strange grouping of individuals.) We previously posted about it right here. The film is playing the Tribeca Film Festival very soon, meaning that yes, I will be seeing it soon myself since I will be covering the festival for The Film Experience yet again this year.

And yes I have seen tons of movies at press screenings in the past week and a half, but I can't talk about them until they start screening -- if things have seemed a little quiet here this week it's because I've either been watching those movies or not watching other movies about which to talk. (Or I've been screaming about politics somewhere, since that's been eating up my brain too.) Anyway I am gonna try to focus today. Let's see how that goes!

Well it's been a few weeks since Zac Efron's gone out of his way to give me tingly feelings down there, so I guess we're over-due -- the new red-band trailer for Neighbors 2 has arrived and it's mostly just more of the same as we saw in the previous trailer... save some shirtless grinding in gray sweatpants!!!

I really, really needed this today, Zac.
Thank you for this.

Evelyn: Peggy, I don't mean to be intrusive,
but are you having problems with Charlie?
Peggy Sue: A lot of things are confusing right now,
Charlie is just one of them.
Evelyn: Is Charlie pressuring you into doing things
you don't think you should be doing?
Peggy Sue: What do you mean?
Evelyn: Peggy, you know what a penis is?
Stay away from it!

A happy 77 to director Francis Ford Coppola today!

Welcome The Mandibles

Great news I stumbled upon last night right before passing out and forgot about until right this minute when I saw some foreign object floating in my Amazon cart -- Lionel Shriver, author of the phenomenal We Need To Talk About Kevin (which got turned into an okay movie with a phenomenal performance by Tilda Swinton) has a new book out in June! This is her first since Big Brother (which I also really dug) came out in 2013. It's called The Mandibles: A Family, 2029-2047 and here's how Amazon summarizes it:

"With dry wit and psychological acuity, this near-future novel explores the aftershocks of an economically devastating U.S. sovereign debt default on four generations of a once-prosperous American family. Down-to-earth and perfectly realistic in scale, this is not an over-the-top Blade Runner tale. It is not science fiction."

There's a longer description over there, but we don't need those specifics -- we were sold on the name Lionel Shriver alone. Speaking of I saw her do two readings around when Big Brother came out and if she comes to a town near you go see her speak, she's whip smart & funny as get out. Which you already know if you've read her, but it's nice to see that translated into person form.

I'm calling it right now: 2016 is already a banner year for cinema, because we've got a brand new Juliette Binoche performance to look forward to! The Wait, the first film from The Great Beauty's assistant director Piero Messina, stars Juli as a woman who's forced to hang out with her son's girlfriend for awhile in Sicily as they wait for him to show up for Easter. The film is out at the end of this month, and The Playlist has got the trailer. Yes please!

Today I'd rather be...

... putting some color into Benjamin Walker's cheeks.

Well finally - you'd think the folks at the American Psycho musical would've put out some pictures of Big Ben in his tighty-whities etc sooner, but I guess they figured they shouldn't shoot their wad right off the bat. See a clip from the show with lots of gifs!) right here. (pics via)

Good Morning, John Gavin

A very happy 85th birthday to the actor John Gavin of Psycho (see his shirtless scene in that film here) and Spartacus fame - yup, Gavin is still alive, somewhere out there, although he hasn't acted since he did an episode of Fantasy Island (what else) in 1981. We have posted pictures from this infamously queer scene in Spartacus before but never the video, so let's share that today in his honor.
.
.
You should read the last couple of paragraphs in his bio on IMDb about his post-acting career - this will sound counter-intuitive since I just since you should read it, but it's astonishingly boring! He went into some boring business stuff in the 80s and has apparently been quite successful at it. He always seemed the type. The boring pretty Mad Men type, I mean. But god, so so very pretty. Go on 'n get you some immoral snails, Larry Olivier.

Today I'd rather be...

... back at Positano.

It's somehow made worse, these shirtless pictures of Miguel Angel Silvestre and Brian J Smith (thanks Mac) filming Sense8 on the beach at Positano, Italy, me having actually been right where they're standing before -- it feels like the little ghost of myself that I left behind there is being ignored as they frolic about. And I WON'T BE IGNORED, says my inner Glenn Close.

I suppose if I can't be there it appears at the very least the Wachowskis remain fully aware of their cast's indescribable sexiness, and that they remain committed to capturing that on-screen. So until then, we'll just stare at the pictures, and there are more pictures, right here after the jump...

--- Finer Angels - I'd just heard the other day that Andrew Garfield was going to star as Prior Walter in a staging of Tony Kushner's masterpiece Angels in America (or at least the first half of it?) at the National Theater in May of next year, and now comes word that the role of Joe Pitt (aka the role played in the HBO version by Patrick Wilson and his magical Mormon underpants) will be played by Russell Tovey. Goddamn somebody get me to London next year!

--- Giant Trailers - Can't believe I haven't posted this yet but I actually haven't even watched it yet - over at The Film Experience you can see the full trailer for Steven Spielberg's adaptation of The BFG,  along with some great commentary on all of the Roald Dahl movie adaptations that have happened so far. My favorites are Wonka (the original, not Tim Burton's monstrosity), The Witches, and James and the Giant Peach, and those are probably the only correct answers you can give on that question. Oh and as long as I'm at it with trailer I haven't watched here's TFE's take on the Star Wars Rogue Onetrailer too. I asked on Twitter last night if I should bother watching it - it's not that I am not enthusiastic about the movie, I am, I'm just not sure if I should bother spoiling myself.

--- Service Me - It had already been announced that Edward Holcroft was going to be back for the next Kingsman: The Secret Service movie so I was already sold on it, but now comes word via EW that Game of Thrones' Pedro Pascal is joining the cast for the sequel, and about this I am enthusiastic. By the way have I mentioned how I believe in my heart of hearts that the sequel will end on the same note as the original film, with a close-up of an ass, but it will be Taron Egerton's this time? I am mentally willing it to be. Will it with me!

--- I Am Beguiled - It's been a weird busy couple of weeks so some stuff has fallen through the cracks - nothing's been as horrific an oversight as me not mentioning THIS though: Sofia Coppola is remaking the wacko 1971 Clint Eastwood flick The Beguiled (which we talked about briefly right here) with a cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, and Kirsten Dunst. FUCK YES. The original is about a Civil War soldier who runs from battle injured and ends up at a female boarding school where the ladies go BONKERS with lust over him, and it's a CRAZY movie. Imagining Sofia's girlishly feminist spin on this is making my toes curl. But who should play the dude part???

--- The Victoria Age - I feel bad every time I think about the astonishing and electric single-take movie Victoria that I never properly reviewed it because I love love loved it, and it deserved to be said.  So this is me saying it! Its director Sebastian Schipper (also an actor that I've had a crush on ever since he discovered his bisexuality in Tom Tykwer's film 3) is lining up his next movie and it's sounding exciting - it's called Undeniable and it's an adaptation of a woman's memoir about trying to solve her own cold case rape. Darren Aronofsky is producing and the script was written by the woman who wrote Shame

--- Note To Self - Adam Wingard, the director of the killer two-fer The Guest and You're Next, is adapting the well-loved horror manga series Death Note (it's already been made into a series of Japanese films) next - I guess Warner Brothers decided not to make the movie so Netflix stepped in and will make it. (Warner Brothers is too busy blowing money on awful and expensive superhero movies, apparently.)

--- Shrinky Dink - I hate to ask this of you people, to admit such a thing in public, but have any of you read the Fifty Shades books? Feel free to answer anonymously. I ask because Hugh Dancy has just joined the cast of the sequelFifty Shades Darker to play the psychiatrist for Jamie Dornan's sex fetishist and I need to know if there's kink happening on that couch, stat. Anyway those fantasies aside I love the though of Hugh taking on the Hannibal role here.

--- One Fast Woman - I suppose it's good for Charlize Theron's career and pocketbook that she sign on to play a bad guy - excuse me, bad gal - in the next Fast Furious flick, but man, she's better than this. She knows, she's better than this. We all know she's better than this! But that franchise is inexplicably popular and will make money so I guess you take the job and you cash the check. Maybe she can use that cash to finance Jason Reitman's movie starring her. And she should probably fuck The Rock or Jason Statham while she's there. Or maybe the great ginger-bearded Nowegian sex-ball Kristofer Hivju, known here for Game of Thrones and Force Majeure, who also just signed on for the movie.

--- And Finally, here's the first full trailer for the next season of Penny Dreadful, which begins airing on May 1st. Looking swank as usual!

Even if his season of True Detective turned out to be somewhat of a disaster it still gave us the part where Taylor Kitsch hid his boner under a towel, so I wouldn't call it a wash, and if you ask me his most exciting project ever is still to come when he co-stars in Xavier Dolan's next movie -- something I reported Dolan to be pretty keen on, wink wink, several years ago. Point being, things could still turn around for Taylor, and if nothing else, he still looks like Taylor Kitsch. Seems every year on his birthday I ask y'all to choose which fetishized costume he looks better in - he's worn a lot of them! This year we'll go with his two recent queer roles, cuz why not.
