To Efron's Butt Or Not To Efron's Butt

Once upon a time a movie called Dirty Grandpa was made and in that process, be it during the filming or as the promotional materials were released, this little website went insane with keeping track of every ounce of Efron skin made available. It was exhausting for awhile. Well the movie came (and I am guessing so did some of you) and went and I never actually made it to the theater, but I guess it's out on demand now, and will be out on Amazon in a couple of weeks to watch, and so you can expect the internet to flood with those things again. Like a great big shot of Zac's butt!

But... is that actually Zac's butt?
It seems like a butt double to me, the way it's shot.

.
But it's a nice butt, butt-wise, anyway.

Park Slope Serial Killer Romance

Well it has begun! The Tribeca Film Festival started screening their 2016 slate yesterday, and my first review for The Film Experience has gone live -- click on over to read my thoughts on the lesbian serial-killing romantic comedy Women Who Kill, which is maybe probably my favorite movie that I've seen from the fest so far. I was not familiar with writer-director Ingrid Jungermann's online series The Slope before this (any fans?) but you'd better believe I'll be catching up with it now. She's a gas.

Today I'd rather be...

... spotting Jason Momoa.

You don't click on Jason Momoa's Instagram account for a few days and suddenly he's posted a million videos of himself training -- Jason, Jason, Jason! I can only catch so much, have patience with me.

Or, you know, you just keep on doing what you're doing and ignore me completely - I am good just sitting here watching (and watching again) too. Hit the jump for over a dozen more...

Lead Me Into Darkness

So it turns out I am terrible at what I do here, and y'all need to just flip me the bird and be done with me - I have failed us all! Here I am, in charge of keeping track of shit like this news and where have I been? With my head wedged up Zac Efron's ass instead. I am worthless. Worthless!

So what am I on about? Apparently a full THREE WEEKS ago it was announced that Wolf Creek director Greg McLean is making a movie this summer in Australia called Jungle, about "three young men who enter the Amazonian jungle with a mysterious guide." The actors attached? Thomas Kretschmann (who I assume is playing the guide; pic via) and Alex Russell (the Chronicle cutie was most recently seen making out with Sullivan Stapleton in Cut Snake) and some dude named Daniel Radcliffe. It's based on a true story, a memoir written by Yossi Ghinsberg.

And as if me missing that news wasn't enough horror to turn you off my blather forever and ever there's also the fact that Greg McLean HAS A MOVIE OUT IN A MONTH that I had COMPLETELY forgotten about. It's called The Darkness (we have posted about it before when it was called 6 Miranda Drive) and it stars Kevin Bacon as the father of a family who "returns from a Grand Canyon vacation with a supernatural presence in tow." It is out on May 11th, for god's sake! There's a trailer, even! Shame shame on me.

I feel an eventual "Great Moments in Movie Shelves" coming on - yesterday when I alerted you to the first images and posters for Park Chan-wook's upcoming film The Handmaiden I totally missed this shot of Jin-woong Jo with a lovely library lurking over his shoulder. Hello! Thankfully I caught it today because hey what's that there's a trailer now? It's not subtitled but with PCW you kinda can fall head-first into the gorgeous pictures and find out what the hell they're talking about later. Watch the gorgeousness here:

In case you missed the previous pictures of Kit on stage in London right now flashing his business all over the place, click here. This is not your great-grandmother's Faust, people. (thanks to Nadine for the heads-up on this!)

Howdy, folks! I know you're all like, "It's Sunday night, what the heckfire is Jason doing here; he usually spends his weekends lazing about swaddled in Coco Chanel on a veranda, or so I have heard," but those are just vile rumors! Vile! Ahem.

Okay a couple of things that just couldn't wait for me to get off the veranda (thank goodness the reception out here's good) -- my review of the documentary Contemporary Color, which documents (see what I did there?) the Brooklyn concerts that David Byrne put on with the aid of Color Guarders, is up over at The Film Experience, go read it! There's bonus video of actual Color Guarders in the flesh and everything!

Numero zwei - with Tribeca going strong I'm in and out of screenings all week, so things will be really very erratic here. Reviews will be going up over at TFE and I will link to them from here, but otherwise... well, we'll see how it goes. So stay tuned, and stuff.

Unhappy Holidays

Honestly that poster is more fun than anything in the new anthology horror movie Holidays (every short is centered on a holiday and comes to us from a different filmmaker), which is screening at Tribeca this week. But there are a couple of good if not great chapters, as is true with most anthology films -- read my whole review over at The Film Experience. My track record of misery with Kevin Smith remains unchanged.

I know you guys want my review of King Cobra (which I have seen, it is true) but that's not going to go up until later this week so you'll have to be patient. It's a virtue! For now I am managing to talk James Franco anyway - tomorrow's his birthday so this week's "Beauty vs Beast" over at The Film Experience is in his (and Pineapple Express') honor. Head on over and vote!

Somehow I feel as if that picture of Chewbacca hugging Prince Harry speaks to me, deeply, I'm not quite sure what it is. As does the shot below of Harry (with his brother) wielding a light-saber. I wonder what it is? Huh.

See more over at Vanity Fair. Oh and hello! I'm around for the rest of the afternoon now after some screenings this morning, so we'll try to post some. We'll see how it goes anyway.

I'm still settling in and sorting my brain out after a mentally taxing few days trapped inside a movie theater (and this is just a moment of calm in a week-long storm, mind you... not that I am complaining!) so here's something to settle all of our nerves -- a new picture of Benjamin Walker in the American Psycho musical, currently wowing on Broadway. They really should rename The Great White Way as The Great Tighty-Whities Way in his honor, don't you think? For our previous coverage of this momentous occasion, click here. And here. And here. And here.

Although we've had a few keepers from the set of the upcoming Baywatch movie (see here) I feel as if it's actually been fairly surprisingly quiet as far as the gratuitous spectacle of Zac Efron and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson flashing skin for the paps. At least when compared to previous Zac Efron movies. So thanks to Mr. Rock for sharing that picture on his Instagram (that's their co-star Jon Bass in the middle with the lucky hands), and thanks to JJ for these few new shots from the set after the jump...

These pictures are from GQ France (thx Mac) and for a hot second they actually made me forget about those pictures of Nicky's Thrones co-star Kit Harington flashing his butt on stage this weekend... yeah but just for a hot second; now I'm back to Kit again. But hey there's an easy enough way to keep my attention, Nicky... at least until Finn Jones gets the memo.

Good Morning, Billy

We'll allow Sigourney Weaver to be our surrogate (our Sigournogate?) this morning in wishing Billy "Boy" Magnussen a very happy 31st birthday today -- these shots here of him on stage are from the play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which really seems to have been his big break; at least it's when I first heard of (slash saw) him. And oh what a sight!

And wasn't he great as Kato Kaelin on The People Vs OJ Simpson? I kept wanting more Kato, honestly. They should've changed the true history and given Kato a bigger role; like Kato goes out on his own as a private investigator! Ooh I smell a spin-off!

Kit Harington will be baring his bottom on the London stage doing Doctor Faustus until the end of June and I hate to encourage people whipping out their phones during live theater but, well, I am never going to go to this show so my selfishness (and thirst, so much thirst) has won out. Thanks to this Twitterer for sharing these new pictures -- see the former batch right here. I expect updates from every angle every day from now through June, people!

The new sci-fi romance Equals, screening at Tribeca, is such a love letter to Nicolas Hoult's creamy complexion that at times I thought I was watching a skin-care commercial. This is not a demerit. The closer you get your camera to Nicholas Hoult's face, the happier I am. My review for the film is up over at The Film Experience, click on over to check it out!

That double dosage of cinematic Cyclops doesn't really have a ton to do with this post, but who doesn't want to look at Tye Sheridan and James Marsden snuggling? Literally no one doesn't want to look at Tye Sheridan and James Marsden snuggling. So there that is. But speaking of Tye Sheridan he's in a new movie screening at Tribeca called Detour, from the director of Severance and Triangle (both movies I adore), and my review of it just went up over at The Film Experience. Check it out! The movie co-stars Emory Cohen and Bel Powley, which is quite a cast of up-n-comers.

Jack Colton: All this? About five to life in the States,

Joan Wilder: Oh... marijuana
Jack Colton: Oh, you smoke it?
Joan Wilder: I went to college.

Happy 4/20, folks!
I think this scene might be the very first time
that I was made aware of weed being a thing.
